25-man roster contest

Here's the deal: I'm going to post up my prediction of the Nats' Opening Day roster for next year. Then you do the same in the comments section (or email me at sthogan@vt.edu and I'll add them to the comments section). This prediction includes offseason acquisitions, callups AND injuries! All I need is a list of 25 players...I'm going to put up my predictions for a lineup/starting rotation but that is not needed. Make sure you post what you think the Nats WILL do, not what they SHOULD do. After a week or so, I'll tabulate everything and post it up and we'll give bragging rights to the winner.

Opening Day Lineup:
SS Cristian Guzman
LF Lastings Milledge
3B Ryan Zimmerman
1B Nick Johnson
CF Elijah Dukes
RF Austin Kearns
C Jesus Flores
2B Emilio Bonifacio

Bench:
C Luke Montz
IF Leonard Davis
IF Alberto Gonzalez
IF/OF Willie Harris
IF/OF Kory Casto
OF Ryan Langerhans

Starting Rotation:
LHP Oliver Perez
LHP John Lannan
RHP Tim Redding
RHP Collin Balester
RHP Jordan Zimmermann

Bullpen:
RHP Joel Hanrahan-CL
RHP Garrett Mock-SU
RHP Saul Rivera
RHP Jason Bergmann
RHP Steven Shell
LHP Mike Hinckley

Sorry it's boring, but the Nats add one player: LHP Oliver Perez. Even at that, I think the chances of signing Perez are 15% or less, but he at least makes sense due to age. They're not going to sign Tex or CC or Sheets. Maybe Dunn, but I doubt it.

EDIT-here's the spreadsheet.

I can post 'em again here if it'll help.

  4. Well, we can only hope that Nick Johnson will be healthy next year, can't we? I'll go with Nick at First Base, but don't want to emabarrass myself with any other predictions. Hmmmmmm...no, wait a minute...Peter Lalich in the outfield? Nope, sorry, wrong sport! BTW, if ya thought my Friday Foto was Funny, you should check out the Silly Sunday Sweepstakes tomorrow. We'll be Sharing that Caption Love, ya know--and you might know the folks in the snap!

  6. I'm figuring Belliard gets traded to let's say Milwaukee for someone who won't be on the 40 man.

As for OD 09 I'll guess:
    SS Cristian Guzman
    CF Lastings Milledge
    3B Ryan Zimmerman
    1B Nick Johnson
    LF Elijah Dukes
    RF Austin Kearns
    C Jesus Flores
    2B Emilio Bonifacio*

    Bench:
    C Jason La Rue
    IF Anderson Hernandez
    IF Sean Casey
    IF/OF Willie Harris
    OF Wily Mo Pena

    Starting Rotation:
    LHP John Lannan
    LHP Tim Redding
    RHP Jason Bergmann
    RHP Collin Balester
    RHP: Shawn Hill**

    Bullpen:
    RHP Joel Hanrahan
    RHP Saul Rivera
    RHP Steven Shell
    RHP Garrett Mock
    RHP Jesus Colome
    LHP Mike Hinckley
    RHP Brett Tomko

    DL: Dmitri Young

*Should the Marlins for some reason start a lefty on OD (it should be Nolasco or Johnson I would think) this will be Andy H.

**will be announced as part of the opening day rotation but get pushed back due to forearm soreness. Tomko gets the start instead.

  7. Actually, I have a revision. Weathers is signed to close and Mock starts the year as an SP. Everything else is the same.

As for OD 09 I'll guess:
    SS Cristian Guzman
    CF Lastings Milledge
    3B Ryan Zimmerman
    1B Nick Johnson
    LF Elijah Dukes
    RF Austin Kearns
    C Jesus Flores
    2B Emilio Bonifacio*

    Bench:
    C Jason La Rue
    IF Anderson Hernandez
    IF Sean Casey
    IF/OF Willie Harris
    OF Wily Mo Pena

    Starting Rotation:
    LHP John Lannan
    LHP Tim Redding
    RHP Jason Bergmann
    RHP Collin Balester
    RHP: Shawn Hill**

    Bullpen:
    CL: David Weathers
    SU: Joel Hanrahan
    RHP Saul Rivera
    RHP Steven Shell
    RHP Jesus Colome
    LHP Mike Hinckley
    RHP Brett Tomko

    DL: Dmitri Young

  8. I almost picked Sean Casey as well. Tomko I feel is more of a minor league deal guy till someone (Hill?) goes down.

  9. Right re: Tomko. That's more or less what I mean. Technically maybe he's not on the opening day roster, but that's the effect.

I do tend to think they bring in a veteran to close.

They could also non-tender Willie Harris.

  10. I'm a loser already. Kyle Lohse won't be a National. The Free Agent just signed a 4 year deal to stay with the Cardinals.
