Good News, Bad News

Good News:
According to Tarik El-Bashir of The Post (and Capitals Insider), both Brooks Laich and Shaone Morrisonn have elected for salary arbitration. Here's how Tarik explains the situation:
If Morrisonn and Laich do not agree to an extension with the Caps in the coming two weeks, their cases will be scheduled for a date sometime between July 20 - Aug. 4. The deadline for decisions is Aug. 6. By filing, this also means Morrisonn and Laich are no longer eligible to sign offer sheets from other clubs.

Tarik also notes that Boyd Gordon is not going to elect arbitration and Eric Fehr will likely take what the Caps offered him in his qualifying offer.

Bad News:
Elijah Dukes went down tonight with a right patella tendon strain. He's going to get an MRI sometime soon, but it's not hard to believe he may have hurt his ACL. More as the story develops.

EDIT-12:40 AM
From Nats Journal:
The left fielder has a meniscus tear and a partial tear of the patella tendon. He will be placed on the disabled list. (Likely replacement: Kory Casto). He will be out a minimum of 4-6 weeks.

So it's worse than just a strain but it's not as bad as a torn ACL. Good news and bad news in itself I guess.

  1. Hoagie: Haven't heard from you in a while--are you on Vay-Kay? Noticed in the paper this a.m. that the Nats are the WORST in ALL of beisbol. Beisbol has NOT been very good to them (reference to SNL's Garret Morris of the orginial cast, in case ya didn't know!). Please don't forget, BTW, that today's Silly Sunday. Sharpen up that sense o' humor, and drop in to see me!
